Intra Operative Brachytherapy

The aim of radiotherapy is to protect the healthy organs and tissues in the region while destroying the cancer cell by using radiation. Radiotherapy is used in the treatment of cancer in four ways:

-External radiotherapy: The source of radiation is outside the patient.
-Brachytherapy: It is carried out by bringing the radioactive sources close to the area to be irradiated.
-Intraoperative radiotherapy: It is one-time radiotherapy of the tumor bed during surgery.
-Intraoperative brachytherapy: In this form of brachytherapy, the catheters is placed at the tumor bed where the surgeon mostly remove the tumor during surgery. The brachytherapy started after surgery after surgeon approval.
